eBay users are reporting a major disruption with server errors impacting search, log in, checkout, descriptions and more!

Down Detector shows a spike in issues starting around 3:30 PM Eastern today, with reports still coming in at a steady rate hours later.

Comments indicate the API is down, affecting any systems or functions that rely on it to operate - which could also mean that any third party tools that depend on the eBay API will also be experiencing problems.

api has been down for over 4 hours. my code caches for 4 hours and it approaching 6 hours old.

Cannot go to my cart on ebay, nor see seller's description of items in listings. Only able to shop, but not pay. Other high volume sales websites like Amazon and Walmart are working fine for me. Tried both Safari and Firefox on Apple OSX

Can't sign in to either account I've had for 22 years. Can do nothing. only ads appear. Listed a very rare appliance 4 days ago (not another like it on ebay) and it STILL does not show in any kind of search, even specific wording.

The eBay community forums are also experiencing intermittent OAuth errors, but when they are working, users are reporting technical problems with search as well as item descriptions either being blank or displaying error messages.

Search function returns 0 results or results in error.

Search results retuning zero results, some with significant delay. Sometimes results are not posted and an error message is thrown insead "There seems to be a problem serving the request at this time".

Happens with any search, but seems possibly worse with searches in qotes for specificity IE: "baseball" etc.

Item Description field is not being populated with data

Just reporting a bug. Every one of my listings when viewing do not show the seller description. They are all just blank, and eventually there is a timeout error:

An error occurred while processing your request. Reference #97.2b51db17.1777239077.1b6a7b6b

https://errors.edgesuite.net/97.2b51db17.1777239077.1b6a7b6b

I was able to replicate this error - when looking at items, the description box is initially blank then loads with that processing error.

Multiple Reddit posts indicate the problem is also affecting adding items to cart and checking out as well as search, with one post having over 100 responses.

eBay search down?

These issues put auction sellers in a particularly tough spot as many schedule auctions to end on Sundays and may be missing out on crucial last minute bidding activity.

I and prob many others have auctions ending this evening. No one can bid on the items so they will sell for a fraction of what theyre worth. I hope ebay is up for some compensation.

Unfortunately there aren't any good options for these auction sellers - if the auction has more than 12 hours left, they may be able to end it early but could incur additional fees for doing so and if there are less than 12 hours left, their only option is to end early and sell to current highest bidder or let it run until the end.

And posts from the UK, Canada, and Australia eBay forums indicate this is a global issue - though as usual the eBay System Status page still shows all green with no outages or disruptions reported despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

To make matters even worse, eBay recently closed their support channels through Facebook and X and sellers who have tried to contact the remaining social support on Instagram are receiving canned responses advising help is only available Monday - Friday.

That support link of course is not particularly helpful if the eBay site itself errors out when you click through to the help page.

There are also unverified reports that hacktivist group 313 Team is claiming responsibility for a DDoS attack causing these issues - but it's important to stress this is unconfirmed and could simply be opportunistic attribution during a temporary outage.

Just days ahead of eBay's Q1 2026 earnings report, it's worth remembering that back in 2019, then CEO Devin Wenig faced activist investor pressure from Elliott Management pushing for changes - with constant site glitches and technical misexecution called out explicitly as one of the major problems at the company.

7 years later, it's shocking just how much of Elliott's "Enhancing eBay" plan still rings true today - particularly critiques around glitches constantly plaguing the platform and lack of leadership prioritizing operational and technical excellence.

Mazen Rawashdeh, who was Chief Infrastructure and Architecture Officer at that time, was promoted to Chief Technology Officer in 2019 - a title he still retains today despite the fact the site continues to experience these serious, business impacting "glitches" and recurring technical malfunctions.

eBay has not responded to request for comment, publicly acknowledged the issues or provided a timeline for them to be resolved as of time of publishing.

Stay tuned for updates and let us know in the comments below if you are experiencing problems with eBay!
