UPDATE 3-12-26

eBay has now completely deactivated the @askeBay account on X, though confusingly their other remaining official pages all still direct users to a now non-existent profile if they have questions.

Not only does this raise serious transparency issues since it means all previous public answers/information eBay had provided through the account has been deleted, it could also put users at serious risk to fall victim to scams as bad actors may potentially be able to take over that handle if the account stays inactive for over 30 days.

Fake accounts are already filling the support gap putting users at risk for compromising their eBay login credentials or other personal information.

This is a massive security issue waiting to happen and if eBay doesn't care enough about their customers to do something about it, they will deserve the legal and regulatory fallout that is sure to follow.

UPDATE 3-11-26

eBay has now officially shut down active support through Facebook and X - sellers who attempt to tag those pages are instead now receiving automated messages directing them to the standard eBay help pages and contact channels.

While eBay has yet to officially confirm the status of support through Instagram, at least one seller in the community forum reported yesterday they messaged the reps there and were told they are not shutting down.

I sent a message to IG support earlier asking if they would be ending support tomorrow, along with FB and X.

This is the response I received:

So for now, it appears sellers may still be able to access support through @eBay on Instagram.

eBay sellers will no longer be able to message with support reps through the company's Facebook page or X/Twitter account effective March 11, 2026 as company shifts to AI-powered self-service options following latest round of layoffs.

Rumors of the support shutdown began spreading in January, but that time, eBay confirmed it was only affecting the UK Facebook page and that social support would remain available to US sellers.

eBay UK is dropping customer support on Facebook and X, sending sellers to Instagram while shifting towards AI-powered self-service.

But after last months layoffs moved more positions overseas and/or shifted more support to AI-powered self-service options, it appears eBay has now decided to stop offering support through Facebook completely.

eBay undertakes mass layoff impacting ~800 mostly US employees as company continues to ship more positions overseas.

Seller and YouTuber Joe DeMarco posted about the news on his channel, crazeenydriverNYC.

And I was able to confirm by messaging through the eBay Facebook page that this support channel will close on March 11.

eBay community staff have confirmed the shutdown will also include @AskeBay on X/Twitter.

When this same change was announced for the UK in January, sellers were directed to Instagram to still receive support.

Since Instagram was not mentioned as one of the channels shutting down tomorrow, that may continue to be an option for now at least, but it's unclear how long that may remain true.

eBay has a sticky history with offering support through various social media channels.

Social support provides an easy customer service option for users but because those interactions are often publicly visible, it also opens the company up to increased scrutiny and amplification of systemic issues that have plagued the platform for years.

Continuing to encourage sellers to spend more time on competitor platforms (Meta directly goes up against eBay with Facebook Marketplace and buy, sell, trade groups as well as increasing live social selling on Instagram) has also historically been called out as a strategic mis-step for the company - and that's even more true as eBay has recently begun expanded their livestream selling capabilities with eBay Live.

On the other hand, sellers consistently say they found that the support reps available through social media channels were far and away better trained and better able to assist than the overseas call center reps you'll get via eBay's direct phone and virtual chat options.

eBay received significant backlash when they shut down the dedicated eBay for Business Facebook page last year and this move now completes the social support phase-out.

The move comes as eBay is doubling down on ramping up AI powered self-service customer support solutions to cut costs and many sellers having the rug pulled out from under them when their previously promised lifetime access to Concierge support was suddenly cut off because they failed to meet sales volume criteria.
