Etsy is raising Regulatory Operating Fees across multiple markets, passing increasing costs of compliance on to sellers to "help keep pricing aligned to meeting local requirements."

The company has added this fee over the past few years as tax laws and regulatory obligations have driven up the cost of operating in several countries.

Etsy says the fees are set by country and reviewed each year so they can "continue supporting sellers worldwide" - resulting in the introduction of a Regulatory Operating Fee in Hungary, a decrease to the fee for India and Turkey, and increases across multiple other markets, effective June 22, 2026:

  • France: The Regulatory Operating Fee will increase from 0.47% to 1.14%.
  • Hungary: A new Regulatory Operating Fee of 1.97% will apply.
  • India: The Regulatory Operating Fee will decrease from 0.29% to 0.05%.
  • Italy: The Regulatory Operating Fee will increase from 0.32% to 0.80%.
  • Spain: The Regulatory Operating Fee will increase from 0.72% to 0.88%.
  • Türkiye: The Regulatory Operating Fee will decrease from 2.27% to 1.67%.
  • UK: The Regulatory Operating Fee will increase from 0.32% to 0.48%.

To be fair, Etsy isn't alone. Amazon and eBay also pass regulatory costs on to sellers in some markets. But that’s likely little comfort to sellers already dealing with rising shipping rates and other mounting expenses.

While Etsy frames these changes as necessary to navigate an increasingly complex global regulatory landscape, for sellers it’s another layer of margin compression in an already challenging environment - with limited transparency into how these fees are set or where the money actually goes.

At a certain point, “supporting sellers worldwide” starts to feel more like sending them the bill.
