Another day, another USPS rate change on eBay as some Ground Advantage and Priority Mail prices are set to decrease in the latest of several shipping rate adjustments sellers have had to navigate this summer.

eBay posted an announcement today in the community forum advising the latest round of updates will take effect August 22 - but importantly, no exact dollar amount or percentages are being given.

USPS® rate update effective August 22, 2026 | eBay Community Announcements
Discounts apply to select Priority Mail and Ground Advantage shipments

We want to keep you informed about upcoming USPS® rate changes. Effective August 22, 2026, USPS is making rate adjustments that will mean lower shipping costs for select Ground Advantage and Priority Mail shipments. These changes do not apply to rural ZIP Codes.

  • Ground Advantage: Rates will decrease for 2lb packages across Zones 1–8
  • Priority Mail: Rates will decrease for packages weighing up to 10lbs shipping to Zone 8

There’s nothing you need to do, the eBay shipping calculator will automatically update with the new rates when they take effect on August 22, 2026.

Note: these changes do not apply to "rural" ZIP codes, which have had their own separate USPS rate structure since 2024.

eBay sellers have been playing whack-a-mole with USPS rates since a surprise rate drop in June provided steep discounts on many Ground Advantage shipments in the 3-5 lb range.

That update was followed by changes to oz-based tier pricing for Ground Advantage, the regular annual USPS rate update in July, and two subsequent increases affecting certain package weights and zones, most recently on August 8.

eBay recently hired longtime Walmart and Amazon supply chain executive Andres Gonzalez to lead Global Shipping and Authentication, which he described as one of the company's "must-win priorities."

eBay and other third-party label providers may have Negotiated Service Agreements or Non-Published-Rate product contracts with USPS that dictate the rates they pay separate from published retail and commercial rates.

Those agreements may be subject to change outside of scheduled published rate updates, and because they are negotiated contracts, the exact terms and prices are usually not disclosed publicly - so you won't find an official press release or announcement from USPS about these upcoming changes to eBay label prices.

Meanwhile, the Postal Service continues to face significant financial pressure even as package revenue grows, posting a $2.5 billion loss in Q3 as volume declined despite higher revenue.

Today's announcement brings lower rates for some shipments, but even positive changes can disrupt workflows or require additional effort to update listings, leaving sellers anxiously wondering when the next update will come.

It remains to be seen whether the same adjustment eBay announced today will appear on Etsy, Pirate Ship and other shipping platforms.

Let us know in the comments below how these frequent shipping rate updates are affecting your business and if you're seeing these adjustments across other platforms as well!
