eBay Gives Sellers Late Notice Of Yet Another USPS Ground Advantage Rate Increase
eBay has informed sellers of yet another change to USPS Ground Advantage prices for labels purchased through the platform, but bizarrely the notice came two days after the higher prices went into effect.
The announcement, posted in the eBay community forum at about 11 AM Eastern on August 10th, says that prices for 3-5 lb packages to certain zones increased on August 8th.
We have an update to share about USPS Ground Advantage rates. Effective August 8, 2026, USPS updated rates for select Ground Advantage shipments, including those purchased through eBay Labels.
This update only affects:
- Packages weighing 3–5 lbs
- Shipments to Zones 5–8
Here's what's changing:
- Zone 5: Rates will increase by $1.00
- Zones 6–8: Rates will increase by $2.00
eBay staff ended the announcement by saying "We'll continue to keep you informed as shipping rates change so you have the latest information as quickly as possible" - a statement that would seem difficult to square with the late notice of this price change.
The move comes as sellers are still trying to figure out the initial rate changes for shipments in the 3-5 lb range that had some trying to find ways to increase the weight of their packages to get the significantly discounted prices being offered, as well as subsequent rate adjustments also made with short notice.

Confusion also continues over "rural" zip-code exclusions for oz-based tier pricing under new Ground Advantage rates that went into effect July 12th.
It remains to be seen whether the same adjustment will appear on Etsy, Pirate Ship and other shipping platforms, but given how the initial discounted rates applied to multiple providers, it won't be surprising if this increase eventually does too.
The increase comes as USPS continues to face serious financial pressure, posting a $2.5 billion loss in the third quarter of fiscal year 2026 despite higher revenue.
Shipping and Packages revenue increased $588 million, or 7.7%, even as volume declined 3.4%, with USPS specifically citing continued Ground Advantage growth as helping drive the increase.
But with the agency still warning of a severe liquidity crisis, shippers should probably expect pricing changes to remain a moving target.

As always, sellers on marketplaces like Etsy and eBay will be particularly impacted by any rate increase since many selling and advertising fees are also charged on shipping costs, resulting in a de facto fee increase that eats even further into margins.
For eBay, higher shipping costs also provide an automatic boost to reported Gross Merchandise Volume since shipping and taxes are included in the calculation — allowing GMV to rise without any corresponding increase in the value of merchandise sold.
