Sellers who have previously disabled eBay's immediate payment requirement for offers and auctions may want to double check their settings as some sellers report recently being automatically opted back in by eBay with no notice or warning.

WHY DID EBAY TURN AUTO-PAY BACK ON???????
I just got a message from a Buyer that they noticed Auto-pay was turned on late last night when they tried to bid on one of my auctions ... WHAT????? I turned that OFF the day it was added to my account. I just checked and sure enough, eBay turned it back ON for both Auctions and the Offer flow ..…

Yes, it has been reported by others. At first, I was thinking that they just forgot to click the "submit" button at the bottom of the page when changing the eBay awarded DEFAULT SET TO YES to no. But perhaps not.

Historically speaking, eBay has had other occasions where preferences were changed on seller's accounts without notice as well. When I sold here I know for certain I had to "opt out" of the GSP, for example, more than three times.

It is always a good idea to check your buyer requirements as well as other pages often.

Sellers who do not wish to encourage multiple sales to the same buyer or provided a combined shipping invoice/discount can keep them in place. eBay probably won't turn them "off" to help increase your sales...LOL.

I always felt dropping these on seller's accounts (auto-enrolling instead of providing an option for a seller to select YES) was pretty unethical.

eBay started testing immediate pay for offers in late 2021, expanding the option to auctions earlier this year, with many sellers expressing frustration they were automatically opted in with no notice or warning.

At eBay Open 2023, Senior Director Trust, David Newman admitted that solving the unpaid item problem has taken longer than intended due to the challenge of "unwinding 28 years of buyer behavior."

With best offer, the feedback from sellers has been incredibly positive and we're glad you are seeing our commitment come to life. That said we're still listening and acting on your feedback on how to make the experience even better and we have begun our work on auctions.

Jamie committed we would solve this problem and admittedly it has taken longer than we intended. The reality is that unwinding 28 years of buyer behavior in a way that is net positive to your business requires a great deal of testing and we'll remain deliberate and thoughtful in our approach.

Many buyers have pushed back on this issue, citing increased friction in the user experience, lack of support for combined shipping, and concerns about payment authorization holds tying up funds.
