We’ve been hard at work iterating on our search experience to help buyers more easily find what they’re shopping for while driving more traffic to listings and increasing sales for our sellers. Recent tests centered around this have shown an increase in sales, likes, and traffic to listings across the board. With these results and your valued feedback in mind, we have moved back to an optimized version of just shared as the default sort for all users.

Our commitment to you is to honor what makes Poshmark unique as a social-marketplace: our community. We want to connect shoppers with the most relevant inventory to their searches and in turn, reward sellers for the effort they’ve put into marketing and crafting quality listings, with an increase in sales and visibility. We encourage sellers to continue leveraging the power of sharing and to enrich listings with titles, descriptions, style tags, and multiple photos to help match their listings to the most interested and relevant buyers.

Through ongoing testing, we will continue optimizing to drive more traffic and orders to your listings. Stay tuned, as we will be offering education for Posh Ambassadors focused on how they can improve the discoverability of their listings. As always, we are here to listen! Please comment below to share feedback and we appreciate your patience as we monitor.

The "ongoing testing" may refer to changes that were originally made last month, then reverted after receiving quite a bit of backlash.

A message from our SVP of Seller Experience.

As you may know, we recently rolled out a new default sort option for search to launch a more relevant search experience for all Poshers. Recommended sort takes into account sharing as well as a number of other aspects. Since rollout, we’ve seen huge improvement in the buyer experience and seller sales across the board. But we have heard your feedback. This new sort order is simply not working for many of you.

As a result, today, we will be switching back to just shared as the default sort option for most users. We will continue to improve our search to provide a better experience for shoppers and help sellers get more exposure via sharing and relevance. We will re-release a new version after further test and iteration.

In closing, I value your partnership in creating a space fueled by the voices of our community and propelled by the work of our team. Please comment below to share feedback. We will be monitoring and actioning them, we are here to listen.

Sincerely,

Tracy Sun
SVP of Seller Experience, Poshmark

Reactions in the comment section show many users are not convinced the new search experience is a move in the right direction.

Has anyone at PM HQ actually tried searching anything since the update? The results are useless! Why would PM give us 80 characters for a listing title if the search consistently only shows listings with titles that have no description or that are completely irrelevant to what I’m searching for.

I can’t search for ANY specific item. Whoever keeps plugging this “need” for a new search at corporate has NO IDEA what they’re doing to the small businesses that rely on PM TO SURVIVE. YOU ARE BITING THE HAND THAT FEEDS. GET. IT. TOGETHER.

As a buyer I’d sure like to see Poshmark create a much needed saved search. Maybe get a good recruiter out there and “borrow” some talent from eBay or Mercari on the search algorithm, because as a seller, I am feeling what most others are.

As a stock holder with several thousand shares, I’m hoping you’re bringing in lots of profit with your new system, but am skeptical due to my own results so far.

The search feature needs a lot of help. Not only has this changed drastically effected my sales it is completely frustrating as a buyer as well. Tonight I searched for a Ralph Lauren Purple label skirt, the results came back with lots of brands that weren’t Ralph Lauren. I filtered to that brand only why were there a bunch of ties in my results. I’m trying to shop for a skirt, not a man’s tie.

As a buyer this is very frustrating and will cause people to shop on another platform. None of us want this. Please do what’s best for all of us and fix this. I love selling on Poshmark, so much that I made it my full time job. I would like it to stay that way.

It’s become more than a little obvious that the search change you made a few weeks back is back in place, and what’s worse is that you KNEW it was having a negative effect for both buyers and sellers and yet you STILL tried to sneak it all by us again.

Shame on you, Poshmark— I have never seen a reselling platform so carelessly throw their users under the bus so willingly. The bare minimum we were asking for weeks ago was TRANSPARENCY, and we received NONE of that… again!

Poshmark has been my favorite reselling platform up until now, and quite frankly, if you don’t care enough to work on improving the user experience and choose to keep ignoring our feedback, then you deserve to fail.
