Update as of January 6th

We want to share an update about this topic:

Our team has been working with Facebook to understand why these seller Groups were removed - and, most importantly, to reinstate them.

While we continue to investigate the cause of this action, we have confirmed that it was not the result of any official eBay request.

We also are pleased to report that groups that shared their complete information with us have already been reinstated. If you know of a Facebook group that remains impacted, please contact us at askcommunity@ebay.com and provide the group name, the URL to the Facebook Page that administers the group, the group URL, and any other relevant information.

Finally, we are working with Facebook to improve the checks and balances, and to do everything possible to reduce the chance of this happening again. . We also are reviewing our social media name & logo usage guidelines to be sure they are clear and easy to follow for all of our seller community.

Thanks for your patience as we reviewed this situation and thank you for selling on eBay.

It looks like a big misunderstanding rippled through the eBay reseller community, resulting in an official statement from eBay to clear up the confusion.

Hello Sellers,

We’ve heard that a small number of Facebook groups with “eBay'' in the name were removed from Facebook a few days ago.

As you know better than anyone, community is the cornerstone of eBay. We know the Facebook groups run by you, our sellers, are a critical part of how this community stays connected and informed, and we love seeing the connections among eBay seller groups.

As soon as the removals were brought to our attention, we began actively investigating the cause. Currently, the team is working directly with Facebook to reinstate the groups that were removed.

If your Facebook group was impacted, please contact us at askcommunity@ebay.com. Kindly provide the group name, the URL to the Facebook Page that administers the group, the group URL, and any other relevant information

Finally, anyone who proactively changed the name of their FB group to remove "eBay" is encouraged to reinstate the old name - including the word eBay (within the Facebook group rules). Please note there are some long standing rules around use of the eBay logo which you can review here.

When we know more about what happened, we’ll update here. Until then, we hope your holidays are safe, healthy and warm.

Thank you for selling on eBay.

It appears the confusion may have come from some groups being taken down for other reasons, possibly for violating other terms of Facebook UA, and rumors circulated from there.

The Rockstar Flipper YouTube channel posted an interesting screenshot purportedly with a statement from an eBay executive clarifying that eBay wants to drive community engagement and eBay oriented social media groups are important to those efforts.
