eBay US May 2025 Seller Update: Certified Open Box, AI Social Video, Chat Translation & More
eBay US has dropped their May 2025 Seller Update, introducing Certified Open Box program, AI social media video tools, messaging translations and more.
First up, eBay is launching Certified Open Box for Electronics & Home categories.
We’re pleased to introduce the Certified Open Box program, designed to enhance your Open Box listings within Electronics & Home.
Listings in eligible categories will now automatically display the Certified Open Box badge when they meet key service standards and offer free shipping and free returns. This badge communicates premium quality and can help boost buyer confidence, helping your items stand out and elevating your brand presence on eBay.
Each Certified Open Box item comes with a one-year warranty serviced by Allstate Protection Plans, adding even more value and peace of mind for your customers.
Examples of eligible categories:*
- Cell phones
- Smartwatches
- Laptops
- Vacuum cleaners
- Appliances
- Headphones
- Tablets
- Tools
- Video game consoles
To qualify for the program, your seller level needs to be ASTD/ETRS.
Make sure your listings:
- Fall into the eligible categories described above
- Have the condition set to “Open Box”
- Offer free delivery
- Provide at least 30-day free returns
Your listings must also meet the following service metrics:
- “Item Not as Described” rate below 4%
- “Item Not Received” rate below 1%
- A minimum of 25 Open Box transactions every 3 months
eBay is also introducing a new generative AI tool that will turn your product images into video for social sharing.
