eBay UK Raises Simple Delivery Rates, Adds Free Click & Collect For Fashion As Vinted Gains Share
eBay UK is updating Simple Delivery pricing from September 1, adding new value-based home delivery tiers and temporarily offering free Click & Collect for selected lower-priced fashion items. Private sellers were notified this week that new rates will apply to listings priced between £75 and £750, including existing listings, with the changes applied automatically.
eBay's updated Seller Centre page now shows five home delivery price bands based on final sale value: under £75, £75-£100, £100-£150, £150-£375 and £375-£750. Rates also vary by parcel weight, dimensions and which couriers the seller has enabled.
For sellers with all couriers selected, a 0-1kg small parcel will cost £2.94 for an item under £75, rising to £3.38 at £75-£100, £3.93 at £100-£150, £5.81 at £150-£375 and £6.84 at £375-£750. A 10-20kg parcel rises from £7.19 in the lowest value tier to £16.82 in the highest.

Royal Mail-only rates are higher, with a 10-20kg parcel ranging from £10.80 for an item under £75 to £21.20 at £150-£375 and £24.94 at £375-£750. Paying those higher Royal Mail-only rates does not necessarily guarantee Royal Mail will be used, as eBay's terms say carrier preferences cannot always be honoured and sellers may still receive a label from a carrier they have excluded.
The final sale price determines the rate, meaning auction postage costs can change depending on where bidding ends. eBay's September terms give the company sole discretion to set Simple Delivery label prices based on factors including weight, dimensions, item value, category and carrier preferences. When the buyer pays for postage, the payment goes directly to eBay in exchange for the label provided to the seller.
Simple Delivery was introduced in fashion in 2024 and later expanded across most eligible private seller categories, eventually becoming mandatory for most qualifying listings. On Q1 2026 earnings, CFO Peggy Alford said eBay planned to expand managed shipping initiatives to drive additional revenue.
By Q2, shipping revenue was growing at a double-digit year-over-year rate and the majority of UK C2C transactions were being processed through Managed Shipping. eBay's Q3 outlook also identified advertising, shipping and payments as positive contributors to take rate.

Higher Simple Delivery rates will increase eBay’s reported Gross Merchandise Volume too, since GMV includes shipping fees and taxes. Buyer Protection Fees are incorporated directly into the item price buyers pay, meaning both charges can increase GMV without any corresponding increase in the amount sellers receive for the merchandise.
eBay is rolling out eBay International Shipping in the UK this month as well, replacing the Global Shipping Programme with a service reaching more than 195 countries. The company also recently hired longtime Walmart and Amazon supply chain executive Andres Gonzalez as VP & GM Global Shipping and Authentication, with Gonzalez calling Shipping and Authentication "must-win priorities."
Transaction losses rose 19% in Q3 2025, with Alford saying much of the increase was due to higher consumer protection losses from the ramp of UK managed shipping, along with unfavorable changes in buyer and seller fraud.
By Q2 2026, transaction losses had increased from $86 million to $133 million year over year, up almost 55%, while non-GAAP transaction losses rose from 3.2% to 4.2% of revenue. eBay attributed the increase to higher consumer protection losses from shipping programs and customer experience enhancements, but did not break out how much was tied specifically to Simple Delivery.
Under Simple Delivery, eBay says eligible sellers are covered up to the sold item value if a shipment is lost or damaged after entering the carrier network, subject to packaging and other program requirements. Value Added Resource has previously raised questions about how that protection works in practice.

eBay has not linked the September rate changes to those losses or explained why it chose the £75, £100, £150 and £375 thresholds. The company has not said whether carrier pricing or its own protection exposure played any role in setting the new rates.
From September 1 through October 31, buyers can receive free Click & Collect on eligible fashion items priced £20 or less from private sellers. New eligible listings will be included from September 1, with existing listings joining from September 22. Sellers must use buyer-paid postage and the Buyer Protection Fee still applies.
Unlike home delivery, regular Click & Collect pricing does not change based on sale price. Evri and InPost collection cost £2.62 for parcels up to 2kg and £3.42 for 2-10kg parcels, while Royal Mail rates range from £2.62 for smaller shipments to £9.92 for 10-20kg parcels.

On a £5 or £10 fashion purchase, removing a £2.62 delivery charge makes a noticeable difference to the checkout total.
eBay has made a series of major changes to its UK C2C business as Vinted has grown, eliminating private selling fees in 2024 before adding Buyer Protection Fees and making managed shipping mandatory for most eligible private seller listings.
The UK Competition and Markets Authority's recent review of eBay's Depop acquisition estimated Vinted accounted for 50-60% of UK C2C online apparel GMV in 2025, up from just 5-10% in 2021, while eBay's share fell from 30-40% to 10-20%.

Internal documents reviewed by the regulator showed Vinted was closely monitored by both eBay and Depop and that the companies had responded directly to its expansion, including by removing seller fees.
eBay completed its approximately $1.4 billion acquisition of Depop in July, with analysts already flagging heavier marketing spending and competitive pressure from Vinted.

On the Q2 earnings call, Alford said eBay plans to invest in making Depop shipping more affordable through tiered incentives intended to lower buyers' total purchase costs and improve conversion, with a significant portion of the expense recognized as contra-revenue.
