eBay is kicking off annual Leaders Week at San Jose HQ and they'll be hosting a few lucky UK and German private sellers at in person meeting with execs to provide feedback on ongoing consumer to consumer (C2C) selling initiatives!

Information about this unique opportunity was posted in the eBay Germany community forum, soliciting applications for 2 spots, preferably to be filled by sellers in the electronics, clothing, home, and garden categories.

Share your thoughts on private selling on eBay live with eBay executives in California! (translated by Google)

Hello dear private sellers,

We have a unique opportunity for you: You can participate in a one-hour panel with private sellers from Germany and the United Kingdom in San Jose, California, USA, during eBay Leaders Week in May 2025! eBay Leaders Week brings together over 700 international eBay leaders to network and learn more about eBay's strategy.

Highlight of the event:
During Leaders Week, our leaders will delve into the exciting developments eBay is making globally and across categories to optimize the marketplace for women buyers and sellers. A special highlight will be the one-hour C2C seller panel on the second day, where you can join and voice your opinion directly to our leaders.

Why private sellers?
eBay is transforming its business model to better support C2C sellers. We'd like to hear your experiences and insights on the latest changes and innovations in private commerce in Germany.

Details on participation:

  • Travel logistics: You fly to San Francisco, USA, and use a shuttle service provided by eBay to San Jose (approximately 1 hour drive).
  • Arrival: You should arrive on Monday, May 12, 2025, to participate in the panel on Tuesday afternoon, May 13, 2025.
  • Cost coverage: eBay will cover all travel expenses, including flights (Premium Economy), chauffeur service, hotel accommodations, and meals.
  • Fun program: There will be an entertaining program in San Francisco on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. Afterwards, you can fly back on the evening of May 14, 2025, or stay longer at your own expense.

Who we are looking for:
We're looking for C2C sellers who would like to share their experiences and feedback with eBay leadership as part of the panel. We particularly welcome applications from sellers who have recently started selling on eBay and bring a fresh perspective. This is a great opportunity to help shape the future of eBay.

How can you express your interest?
We have two spots available for participants from Germany. If you are fluent in English and willing to present your constructive insights on online marketplaces in Germany to leading decision-makers in the US, we look forward to receiving your application.

Ideally, you occasionally buy and sell used goods in the electronics, clothing, home, and garden categories through various online marketplaces in Germany and have been selling on eBay since it became free for private sellers (at least for three months, approximately five eBay sales).

If you're interested, send a community message to miriam@ebay or an email to community@ebay.com . Please briefly introduce yourself and describe your selling activities, not only on eBay but also on other platforms. We look forward to hearing from you and shaping the future of online retail together!

Interestingly, there does not appear to be a similar invitation posted in the eBay UK community, indicating eBay may have already privately selected participants for that region.

If so, it's disappointing but not surprising that they chose not to open the UK slots up for public applications.

Private sellers have been extremely vocal in the community forums about recent changes including delaying payouts until after delivery, the introduction of Buyer Protection Fees, and mandated use of Simple Delivery managed shipping - all of which is feedback the eBay executives who have implemented these policies absolutely need to hear.

eBay’s February 4th Failure To Launch: No Buyer Fees, Missing Pre-Owned Conditions & App Outrage
eBay’s February 4th 2025 plans foiled by failure to launch Buyer Fees in UK, missing pre-owned clothing conditions & forced app update outrage.

The event sounds similar to last year's "Seller Week" and while there has been no mention of it in the US eBay community either, it's likely that eBay has tapped their network of already pre-approved sellers who host local meetups and presentations at other eBay events to ensure a US presence at Leaders Week too.

eBay Hosts Seller Week At San Jose HQ With Presentations, Panels & Social Events
eBay hosts Seller Week at San Jose campus, inviting some local sellers to attend presentations, panels, & social events & engage with eBay staff.

Participation in such events usually requires sellers to sign non-disclosure agreements, so unfortunately, we're not likely to hear many details of the event outside of whatever eBay authorizes them to share or puts out through their own social channels.

eBay Seller Dilemma: Sacrificing Free Speech For Executive Access
Should sellers have to give up right to speak publicly about their experiences for their feedback to be heard by eBay?

Luckily, Value Added Resource is an NDA-free zone - let us know in the comments below what you would tell execs if you had the opportunity to make a presentation at eBay Leaders Week!
