eBay has reportedly announced a phased shutdown of their Research and Development operations in Israel, with over 200 employees losing their jobs by Q1 2026.

Calcalist revealed the plan, saying the center located in Netanya, which was originally established following the company’s 2005 $620 million acquisition of Israeli price comparison site Shopping.com will be shut down over the next year.

After years of downsizing, eBay has decided to end its Israeli operations by Q1 2026.

eBay is closing its operations in Israel, Calcalist has learned. On Tuesday morning, employees were informed that the company plans to shut down its entire Israeli operation by the first quarter of 2026. All employees will be laid off as part of the phased closure, which affects more than 200 people...

...In a statement, eBay said: “As a global company, eBay continually assesses our operational footprint to optimize support for our people, customers and long-term strategic objectives. After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close our office in Israel in the first quarter of 2026. We remain committed to providing support to our employees throughout this transition.”

The R&D center in Israel has been under the leadership of General Manager Amir Di-Nur since 2021 and has had several rounds of recent layoffs, prompting many employees there to wonder if more cuts would be on the way.
