eBay-owned TCGPlayer Suffers Major Black Friday Outage, Duplicate Orders Send Users Into Panic
eBay-owned collectible trading card marketplace TCGPlayer is having a rough start to Black Friday shopping as an unexpected database error caused a site outage and duplicated orders, sending users into a panic.
The company's Tweet about the issue has received over 20 responses so far, with buyers and sellers asking how they can know if their orders went through and wondering if they will be charged multiple times for duplicate orders.
I'm showing 42 pending orders due to the site crash. What's going to happen in regards to getting charged. Am I ok to make a legit order?
Finally went through. Took 47 minutes and an item left cart but I found one for the same exact price. You all knew this would be a huge sale, prepare better next time! Communication was off and this felt like the recent secret lair launches.
Hey so if I have an order that went through, but something shows as pending for all those failed attempts when your site was messing up, should I be worried about those or will they fall off since they failed?
@TCGplayer There should be a compensation for this disaster to both buyers and sellers because a lot of people wait months /year for this one time event and then if they get screwed over that is very bad for a business.
The technical snafu comes at the worst time of year as TCGPlayer just kicked up their annual Cyber Weekend sale offering 10% store credit on every order.
Buyers and sellers also took to Reddit to discuss the outage, expressing frustrations that eBay/TCGPlayer had all year to prepare and should have been ready to handle the influx of traffic.
Had 34 things in my cart and tried paying ten different times till it got to this screen -.-
I did the same thing. Now I have the 1 order that went through and 39 pending orders in my order history.
Same... my order got refunded and processed like 6 times. Now at least 1 set of orders is placed, another 20 are "pending".
Same here, I kept trying during the outage and got API errors. When it came back up I finally got order confirmed. When I check my orders I have 5+ pages of the same order.
same, I have 10 emails of my order and in the order history it looks like some cards are listed between 5 & 10 times. All from the same sellers. Tried the customer service bot and it was useless. Any advice to clear it all up so I only have the 1 order? I'm worried how this is gonna affect the sellers end and that affecting my card order.
Lol all our buyouts are getting destroyed because we can't check out. Funny how tcgplayer said to load your carts up to be ready to check out and here we are doing what they wanted and we can't give them our money. Waste of time for a lot of us. Tcgplayer FAIL
TCGPlayer posted an update on Twitter, saying they are working to resolve the issue and users will not be charged for any duplicated pending orders.
