eBay is raising seller currency conversion fees across multiple markets, adding another 0.25 percentage points to the cost of converting funds when sellers list or sell on an eBay site using a different currency.

The increases start October 14 for sellers registered in the US and Canada, where the fee will rise from 3% to 3.25%, followed by Australia on November 1. UK sellers will see their rate increase from 2.5% to 2.75% on December 1, with Germany, France, Italy and Spain moving from 3% to 3.25% on December 2.

But unlike many other fee increases eBay has rolled out this year, there doesn't appear to have been a corresponding Seller Update or Community announcement calling attention to the changes. Instead, notices have been added directly to the selling fee pages in each market, including both business and private seller pages where applicable.

For example, the US page now says:

From October 14, 2026, the fee for sellers registered in US will increase to 3.25%.

The seller currency conversion charge applies when eBay converts funds for listings or sales on another eBay site using a different currency. For example, if a US seller lists directly on eBay Germany, eBay may convert USD to EUR to collect listing or optional upgrade fees, then convert the sale proceeds from EUR back to USD for payout.

eBay says its transaction exchange rate is made up of a base exchange rate reflecting wholesale currency markets plus the conversion charge, which is retained by eBay.

That charge is separate from the international fee sellers may pay when selling across borders. US sellers currently pay a 1.65% international fee in applicable transactions, though eligible sales shipped through eBay International Shipping are exempt.

A comparison of the current UK business seller fee page with an archived version from August confirms the currency conversion charge is the only fee rate that changed. Shop subscriptions, listing and optional upgrade fees, category Final Value Fees, the 0.35% regulatory operating fee, international fees and the £14 dispute fee all remain unchanged.

In January, eBay gave UK and German business sellers advance notice through dedicated Seller Updates that Final Value Fees and per-order charges would be changing in February. UK sellers saw the per-order fee on sales over £10 increase from £0.30 to £0.40 along with changes in select categories, while Germany increased its per-order charge and adjusted Final Value Fees across a broader range of categories.

More Fees, Less Margin: eBay Raises Final Value Fees in UK & Germany
New eBay fee increases in the UK and Germany strain sellers facing higher ad costs, rising shipping rates, and shrinking margins.

German sellers got another formal heads-up ahead of July changes that cut Final Value Fees to 5% for used and refurbished items in select categories while raising rates on some new goods, with eBay explicitly tying the changes to investment in recommerce and other growth initiatives.

The separate global seller fee page still lists conversion charges of 2.5% for Malaysia and Israel, 3.5% for Latin America and 3% for other countries covered by that structure, with no future increase disclosed.
