eBay users in Canada report receiving emails from eBay confirming charity donations they never made.

I didn't sign up for ebay for charity, so I wasn't part of this, I suspect the "To" list got screwed up.... received this in eBay messaging only so far, no email.

Important Information About Your Recent eBay for Charity Donation

Thank you for recently using eBay for Charity to initiate a donation during checkout between October 12 and October 19, 2022. We greatly appreciate your support. Unfortunately, eBay was unable to process several donations on those dates due to a technical issue. Because eBay did not charge you for your donation, please disregard the tax receipt that was erroneously issued by our partner, Benevity.

We have since resolved the issue and donating at checkout with eBay for Charity is enabled if you would like to use that option at a later time.

Thank you for your patience and understanding, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

eBay for Charity

ha......i was just about to post about the same issue. I just got that message too. I have no idea what it's referring to.....is it saying i made a donation when i bought something, or i donated part of my profits to charity? I only had one sale during the time period in question and i was paid what i should have been by ebay.....nothing withheld for charrity. I didn't buy anything during the time period either.

Not spam, was in my ebay messages inbox.

I got the exact same e-mail. I have never made any donation to any charity through eBay.

Just received the same message and looked here to see if I was alone (apparently not).

I had made one purchase during that period and had three sales. If there was a Charity donation with either buying or selling I would hope it would have been more noticable and we should have been asked if we wish to participate! I guess it shows we should be making sure we read absolutely every line on everything we do in case something was randomly added like this! (Admittedly I don't always read all the fine print!)

Maybe this was just a mass email to everyone as that would be much quicker than having to go through all the sales/purchases for that week for everyone!

Other users expressed concern about possibly being hacked and indicated errors like this may compromise their trust in selling on the platform.

Same here, just getting in touch with ebay, making sure my account is not being hacked.

Yep, I'm here to see if anyone else got this, to save having to make a phone call. I also didn't donate. I'm almost afraid to list anything in case I'm inadvertently signing up for something I wish not to sign up for!

eBay Canada community staff said they would report the issue and follow up once they had more information.

Thank you for letting me know about this. I will make sure to get this over the correct team to take a look into it. I will reach back out if they are requesting anymore information or examples on this matter.
