Amazon is shutting down UK-based Book Depository, effective April 26 as part of larger company cost-cutting measures.

The Book Depository was one of the fastest growing booksellers in Europe when Amazon acquired it in 2011, sparking concerns at the time about Amazon strengthening its stranglehold in the book business by buying out an up and coming competitor.

We are sorry to let you know that Book Depository will be closing on 26 April 2023. You can still place orders until midday (12pm BST) on 26 April and we will continue to deliver your purchases and provide support for any order issues until 23 June 2023.

A. You will still be able to place orders up until midday (12pm BST) on 26 April 2023. After 26 April 2023, we will no longer accept new orders.

Q2. Will you still deliver?

A. Yes, all orders placed before midday (12 pm BST) 26 April 2023 will be delivered as normal.

Q3. When will I receive my order?

A. We will continue to deliver items ordered before midday (12pm BST) on 26 April 2023 within our normal delivery times. You can find your estimated delivery date in your order status.

Q4. What happens if my order does not arrive?

A. You can find your orderโ€™s estimated delivery date in your order history.

Q5. Can I cancel my order if it has not shipped?

A. Yes, please complete the online cancellation form and our Customer Service team will then be able to help you.

Q6. Can I return or cancel my order if it has shipped?

A. Yes, you can cancel your order within 14 days after the latest estimated delivery date shown in your order status. Please complete the online cancellation form and our Customer Service team will then be able to help you.

Q7. Can I return my order?

A. Please complete the online cancellation form before returning your order and our customer Services team will be able to help.

Q8. Will I still receive my pre-order?

A. If your pre-order is released before the 26 April 2023, we will aim to deliver this to you within our normal delivery times. Please bear in mind that release dates may change and we may not be able to fulfil your pre-order. If it is not possible to ship your pre-order by the 26 April 2023, we will let you know and issue a refund to the payment method used to place the order.

Amazon also closed craft and hobby subsidiary Fabric.com last year amidst similar cost cutting concerns. Will there be more closures to follow?
