Former eBay Global Fashion VP Alexis Hoopes has joined luxury resale competitor The RealReal as Chief Merchandising Officer, answering questions about her future at eBay after the company brought back Renee Paradise to lead its $10 billion fashion business earlier this year.

The RealReal announced the appointment October 28, saying Hoopes will oversee merchandising strategy, luxury assortment expansion and efforts to improve product discovery through AI and data.

"Alexis is a proven leader who brings a rare combination of luxury merchandising expertise, global marketplace experience and operational discipline," said Rati Sahi Levesque, President and CEO of The RealReal. "As we build on our leadership in luxury resale, her ability to connect exceptional merchandise with evolving consumer demand will be instrumental in accelerating growth, elevating the shopping experience and realizing the full potential of our platform."

Hoopes joined eBay in September 2024, bringing nearly 15 years of experience at Nordstrom and a stint as SVP of Ecommerce at Mattel, where she led the company's direct-to-consumer business.

eBay's new VP Global Head of Fashion, Alexis Hoopes, joins at pivotal time for company with "changing priorities" & increasing C2C selling focus.

During her two years at the company, she led fashion teams across the US, UK and Europe, helping expand Authenticity Guarantee into additional categories, price points and international markets while developing new sources of luxury inventory and partnerships with brands and retailers.

Her departure comes after eBay announced in August that former executive Renee Paradise would return as Global General Manager of Fashion, overseeing both luxury and non-luxury categories and reporting to Chris Prill, VP of Focus Categories.

eBay Brings Back Renee Paradise To Lead $10B Fashion Business
eBay brings Renee Paradise back to lead its $10B fashion business as Depop integration, Vinted competition and leadership questions loom.

At the time, Hoopes was still publicly listed as VP, Global Head of Fashion and had recently posted about eBay's $1.4 billion acquisition of Depop, raising questions about how Paradise's new role would fit with the existing leadership structure.

eBay did not respond to a request for clarification about Hoopes' role following Paradise's appointment. Today's announcement confirms she has since left the company, though the timing of her departure and whether it was related to Paradise's appointment remain unclear.

Paradise took over the fashion business as eBay is ramping up investment in one of its most important growth categories, with luxury and pre-owned merchandise leading fashion growth in Q2 2026 as overall Focus Categories GMV increased 26% year over year. Her expanded responsibilities also include strengthening collaboration with Depop, which eBay acquired in July as competition from Vinted continues to put pressure on both marketplaces, particularly in the UK.

While much of that competition centers on lower-priced secondhand apparel, Hoopes' new role puts her in more direct competition with eBay's authenticated luxury business, where the company has invested heavily in authentication, international inventory and services aimed at attracting higher-value buyers and sellers.

The RealReal specifically highlighted Hoopes' work expanding eBay's luxury inventory through cross-border commerce and developing partnerships with brands and retailers, experience that could be particularly valuable as both companies compete to attract more high-value merchandise to their resale platforms.
