eBay Standard Envelope Prices Updated Early For July 13, 2025 USPS Rate Increase
UPDATE 7-14-25
eBay community staff have acknowledged this issue with Standard Envelope pricing and advised affected sellers to reference ALERT16054 when contacting support to request a refund of additional charges.

eBay sellers report being charged incorrect prices for Standard Envelope service a day ahead of the July 13, 2025 USPS rate increase.
According to a recent announcement from eBay, the updated rates for First Class Mail and eBay Standard Envelope will be:
- 1 oz $0.74
- 2 oz $1.03
- 3 oz $1.32
But sellers in the eBay community and across social media say they are already being charged these higher rates when purchasing ESE labels from the platform, ahead of the official change which isn't supposed to happen until tomorrow.
New USPS rate already being charged?
New USPS rates go into effect on 7/13 according to the seller newsletter for July. Yet, I am already being charged the new rates on all my shipments i printed labels on for 7/11 . You can see by the picture attached I was charged .74 for this shipment. It should still be .69 for standard envelope for trading cards.
Increase on shipping starts July 13, then why did I just pay on July 12?
I shipped a few items using standard envelope and the prior cost was $1.25 with an increase tomorrow being $1.32. I triple checked everything, including the day and date I picked to ship and it was all today and the increase still occurred. Ebay support is non existent so I turned to the community.
The eBay Standard envelope went from .69 to .74 and I was hit with the increase this morning (07/12/2025), a day early, also.
@CardPurchaser Why is eBay charging me $1.32 for std shipping but the printed label only says $1.25. Am I missing something?

Unfortunately, this isn't the first time this has happened - in fact just about every time there is a postage increase affecting eBay Standard Envelope pricing, we've seen similar reports and complaints from sellers about the price going up a day early.
In some cases, it could be because of the shipping date. Since postage increases usually happen on Sundays, if a seller is purchasing a label on Saturday but the actual "ship on" date they've selected is Monday, eBay's programming is set up to charge the higher rate that will be in effect on the actually shipping date.

But many of the sellers reporting this issue today said they have checked and their eBay Standard Envelope shipments are correctly showing a Ship On date of July 12th, but still incorrectly showing the higher rate when purchasing the label.
Strangely, they also say it shows the correct lower amount on the label that is actually printed.
The date was set to July 12th. Looking at the labels themselves as I drop them off at the post office, they have .69 printed on them.
Glitch. They changed the prices on eBay standard to the new rate, but are printing the current rate on the label.

Now for my Ground Advantage they charged me the rate in effect today and that is what printed.
Probably someone in programing hit a wrong key.
That suggests this may simply be what eBay calls a "display issue" where what is being displayed on the "ship your order" screen is not correct but what is printed on the label and actually charged to the seller is the correct lower rate.
This "display issue" explanation is what eBay has provided in the past for this exact issue - for example, when it happened in 2021, eBay community staff said:
We got some clarification on this and it sounds like the display updated early which is why you saw $0.73 but the label still printed at $0.71. You were charged the old amount ($0.71) until 00:01 Eastern Standard time on August 29th at which point the increased price went into effect. Apologies for any confusion that caused!

Based on those past experiences, it's possible sellers may be assuming they are being charged the higher rate just based on what is displayed on the "ship your order" or bulk shipping label creation pages, but what they actually end up being charged will be the correct lower rate for today.
eBay Standard Envelopes are not actually charged when the label is printed and usually take a day or two to show in transaction reports, so sellers who believe they have been overcharged should check the actual charge for shipping labels printed today in their transaction report under the Payments tab in Seller Hub over the next few days to confirm actual charges.

If the transaction report shows the correct rate being charged, then this is just a display issue and there is nothing for eBay to refund or credit - but if sellers find they are actually being charged the incorrect rate for labels being shipped today, they should absolutely contact eBay support.
