eBay is rolling out a new bundled discount feature that lets sellers offer automatic percentage savings when buyers purchase multiple items in the same order.

Sellers can set separate discount tiers for two, three and four or more items, covering multiple quantities of the same product, different listings or a combination of both.

A seller could, for example, offer 10% off two items, 15% off three and 20% off four or more. The savings are shown on eligible listings and applied automatically in the cart.

The feature appears to be rolling out in phases, with some sellers able to activate it while others can see the option but do not yet have access.

Sellers can check for access under account settings here, although the option may be greyed out until it has been enabled for their account.

According to eBay, sellers must opt in before bundled discounts are activated. Once enabled, all eligible listings are included by default and new eligible listings are automatically added unless the seller specifically excludes them.

That could be a concern for sellers with widely varying margins or inventory they do not want discounted together. Once the feature is turned on, sellers will need to exclude individual listings they do not want included.

Bundled discounts also overlap with several promotions eBay already offers, although the new option is designed to be more persistent and easier to maintain.

Volume pricing is mainly aimed at buyers purchasing more than one quantity from the same listing. Bundled discounts can reach across different products in a seller’s inventory.

Order discounts can also reward buyers for purchasing a certain number of items or reaching a spending threshold, but those are typically set up as individual campaigns with selected inventory and defined dates.

Coupons give sellers more control over who receives an offer, along with limits such as minimum purchases, budgets and expiration dates. Sale events reduce the displayed price of selected listings, while shipping promotions apply to delivery costs.

The appeal is an always-on incentive for buyers to add another item without sellers having to create and maintain a series of separate promotions.

Bundled discounts cannot be combined with seller coupons, order discounts, volume pricing or other seller promotional codes. When more than one applies, eBay automatically uses the offer that gives the buyer the lowest price.

They can still stack with eBay-funded promotions and seller sale events, so an item that is already marked down could receive another discount when the buyer purchases enough eligible products.

Returns are handled by recalculating the price of what the buyer keeps.

If a buyer originally received a higher discount for purchasing three items and later returns one, the remaining two are repriced using the seller’s two-item tier. If the buyer keeps only one item, that item is repriced at the full listed price and the refund is reduced accordingly.

In eBay’s example, three $10 items receive a 30% discount and cost $21. If the buyer returns one, the two remaining items are recalculated under a 20% two-item discount and cost $16, producing a refund of $5 rather than $7. eBay says the adjustment is completed automatically without requiring action from the seller.

The recalculation prevents buyers from keeping a higher discount after returning enough merchandise that the remaining order would no longer qualify.

It may also confuse buyers who expect the refund to equal the discounted price originally assigned to the returned item, potentially creating customer service disputes or negative feedback.

Sellers discussing the feature in the eBay Community called out the potential for confusion, particularly when partial returns are added to the usual complications around combined shipping.

Curious...this may have just reached me and is New, but has anybody seen this function and currently using it maybe in a Beta Test (I can’t activate it yet). I…

Some wild automatic calculations for Refunds appear to built-in should a Buyer return part of a Bundle. Could get interestingly complicated for both a Seller and Buyer.

Despite those concerns, other sellers have welcomed the feature. Commonwealth Flipper said competing platforms have historically handled bundling better and viewed the new option as eBay finally beginning to catch up.

eBay has published dedicated help pages for sellers and buyers, including FAQs explaining how bundled discounts work, which offers can be combined and how partial returns are calculated.
