Poshmark Photo Aspect Ratio & Item Condition Updates Catch Sellers Off Guard
UPDATE 11-15-25
Poshmark appears to have reverted back to square photos without backgrounds removed when viewed on the web.

Unfortunately, because there still has been no direct communication from the company to sellers about the changes, it's not clear if they backtracked in response to pushback or if it's a temporary change and the portrait aspect ratio will come back again in the near future.
And of course the lack of communication also means that any sellers who already started to edit their pictures yesterday now may need to edit them again to revert back to ones which are optimized for 1:1 aspect ratio.
Poshmark sellers are struggling with more platform updates as photo aspect ratios changes cut off important item details and new condition requirements raise concerns about potential item disputes.
The image update was announced at PoshFest in September, but sellers who didn't tune in or attend in person may have missed the memo.

Heads of Buyer and Seller Experience, Vanessa Wong and Yogesh Argawal, highlighted several upcoming changes and new features during the PoshFest Hackathon, including the fact that Poshmark would soon be changing from square to portrait aspect ratio for pictures.
Over the last 15 years since the invention of smartphones, how many of you have taken anything but a portrait photo? Right? Our life is captured in a portrait photo inside our camera roll.
But when you come to Poshmark, your portrait photo doesn't work right. Whether you are taking it from photo gallery or using Poshmark camera app, you have to fit everything in a square box.
We are going to get rid of the square boxes and give you the entire camera to capture your item and merchandise the way you'd like to merchandise it.
At the time, I noted that while square pictures may be a better way to display some items, it could also be a major pain if sellers have to retake pictures and/or edit existing listings to make sure the images fit in the new ratio - and that's exactly what sellers are experiencing as the change rolled out today.
To complicate things even more, this change so far appears to only be applying when viewing Poshmark from the web and square images are still being shown in the app so if sellers try to edit their images at this point, it may be difficult to make them look good in both places.
And as part of the changes, Poshmark is also now automatically removing backgrounds on cover photos and replacing them with a plain white background to present a clean and consistent experience for buyers in search and browse results.
Sellers have taken to Reddit to vent their frustration with the changes, saying their images are now "fubar" and some are speculating the move might just be another way Poshmark is trying to discourage crossposting to other platforms that use a different aspect ratio.
Photos are FUBAR

I literally can't list. The app is still cropping photos for the 1:1 ratio, but the desktop version is cropping the photos for a vertical format. They are using two different photo formats right now. I use to start a listing on my phone, save it to a draft, and then publish the listing on my computer. Then I would crosspost my items to other platforms.
They literally screwed crossposting because your photos won't work on any other platform now.
It's almost like they are doing what they can to STOP crosslisting - punishing the sellers for deleting or marking items not for sale, and now making a major pic change. I also wonder if they aren't secretly beefing with the virtual assistant apps like Sidekick and Vendoo.
Over 3k listings. I’m not re-taking that many photos. They can be squished, pinched or whatever, I work full time and do not have enough time in the day as it is.
Not to mention, eBay listings look best in 1:1 format and that’s my meat and potatoes. Poshmark is just a side dish. And right about now I’d say it’s cabbage, or some other smelly vegetable.
Sellers also noticed new options for "condition" when listing today, prompting mixed reactions with some thinking it's a good change that will help Poshmark finally catch up to eBay and other sites who have had similar requirements for years and others worrying it could open the door to more disputes with buyers over subjective item details.
Condition
Looks like they’ve added a condition dropdown. It’s showing on my desktop but not on my app yet. What do you guys think? I’m surprised they haven’t added this earlier and I wish there was an excellent option between like new and good.
No, thank you. It will be abused. Customer support tickets will pile up and we will continue to get the same awful AI replies. Heaven forbid our actual issues with the platform be addressed. Obvious replica sellers still cross by feed on a daily basis. Dead closets are still a huge issue. Scammers might tweak their comments every few months, but they're still obvious and should be dealt with.
If I have to start arguing bogus cases about the difference between fair/good and like new/good I’m done….I’ll be back to eBay FT sighhh
Other sellers said they wondered what the point of the requirement was since the condition options don't appear to be shown on listing pages or search filters where they would be most useful for buyers.
JUST CAME HERE TO POST THIS. I had this option too. But then when I look at the listing, I don’t see the condition listed anywhere?
So what's the point of requiring listings to select Condition but users won't be able to filter on these Conditions? Typical brain dead PM "feature" rollout.
The changes have been coming fast and furious as 3 of 4 of the original Poshmark co-founders have recently left the company and new blood is being brought in, including controversial updates to search, discovery and sharing.
