Poshmark is ending its practice of covering additional postage costs for overweight shipments, warning sellers that failing to purchase the appropriate shipping label upgrades will soon result in deductions from their earnings.

The company announced the change October 8, saying it will begin passing those costs along to sellers October 26 after previously absorbing the required upgrade fees when packages exceeded the standard 5 lb limit. The change does not affect the existing label upgrade rates.

Under the current rate structure, sellers pay $5 to upgrade labels for packages weighing 5.01–10 lbs and $10 for packages weighing 10.01–15 lbs. Those same amounts will now be deducted from earnings when sellers ship overweight packages without upgrading their labels first.

Poshmark is also spelling out charges for packages that exceed its 15 lb maximum weight limit, with sellers facing a $15 deduction for shipments weighing 15.01–25 lbs and the full USPS shipping cost for packages over 25 lbs.

Sellers with heavier bundles are supposed to split orders into multiple boxes and purchase additional labels, since upgrades are only available for packages up to 15 lbs. The new charges apply even when sellers exceed that limit using a single label.

It's not clear whether the $15 charge covers Poshmark's full additional USPS costs for those shipments or if the marketplace will continue absorbing some of the difference.

Poshmark restructured its shipping rates for heavier items in February, eliminating five separate upgrade tiers in favor of the current two-tier system and expanding the maximum weight for a single label from 10 to 15 lbs.

The changes offered substantial savings for heavier packages, reducing the seller-paid upgrade for a 10 lb shipment from $22.50 to just $5. But the new rates weren't cheaper for everyone, as sellers shipping packages 5.01 - 6 lbs. saw their upgrade cost rise from $4.50 to $5.

Poshmark simplifies shipping for heavier items, but some sellers may see higher costs under the new rate structure.

The February changes followed Poshmark's September 2025 switch from USPS Priority Mail to Ground Advantage under a new negotiated shipping agreement, which lowered the standard buyer-paid shipping rate from $8.27 to $6.49 and was intended to make shipping more affordable for buyers and sellers.

The overweight label change follows a separate decision to end Poshmark's subsidy of the USPS hazardous materials noncompliance fee October 19, leaving sellers responsible for the full $50 penalty.

Poshmark has not explained why it is ending either protection, but both changes shift shipping-related costs the marketplace had previously covered onto sellers.
