Mercari Japan has launched a new Price Search feature, helping sellers find the best pricing strategy to make the sale with search functionality to view price ranges, shipping fees and product condition for similar items by keywords or images.

According to a company blog post, many sellers struggle with maximizing profits or ensure that the effort of listing is worthwhile.

“In light of this, Mercari has decided to provide a market-price search feature that reduces the burden of researching prices and shipping methods. Through this feature, we hope to encourage more users to list items and further invigorate the marketplace.”

The feature builds on Mercari’s AI-powered listing tool which allows sellers to automatically generate a title, product description and suggested price by uploading a product image.

Mercari Debuts Image-Based AI Listing Tool Beta
Mercari launches image-based AI quick listing beta, saying “all you need is a pic, a price, a title… & that’s it – you’re done.”

How It Works

  • Tap "Check market price" in the Selling tab.
  • Enter an image search or keyword in the search bar.
  • You can check the following information. On the listing screen, the product name, condition, and product image used in the search are entered, so you can easily list the item as is.
  • Most common shipping fee
  • Product condition
  • Market price (sold out/on sale)
  • Please select the appropriate product condition and check the price.

*The actual listing price and selling price of the most recent similar products are displayed. We do not guarantee that the product will actually be sold at the price.

While Price Search is currently only available for Mercari Japan, if it's successful there, it's always possible they could expand it ot the US Market as well.

Would you find this kind of market-pricing functionality helpful on Mercari US? Let us know in the comments below!
