Mercari brings back Seller Tiers in limited time fee discount promotion that encourages users to sell more to save more.

The limited beta program runs from 3/19/2026 - 5/14/2026 with tiered fee discounts based on sales volume for select sellers.

A seller's initial tier is calculated based on their cumulative completed sales during the 8 weeks prior to the start of the Beta program - which would be from 1/19/2026 to 3/17/2026.

There's no opt in process required, for those sellers who are eligible, the tiered fee structure will automatically apply and you can track your status through the progress bar shown on your profile page.

Sellers who are invited to the program will have to check their emails or accounts carefully for details as it appears Mercari is offering different tier amounts to different sellers as part of the test.

Sellers are encouraged to read the full terms and conditions here.

Unfortunately, it appears the promotion may be off to a bit of a rough start as multiple sellers are reporting on Reddit that they received the email inviting them to the program but are encountering 404 page not found errors when clicking through to view their tier status.

If this sounds familiar, this isn't the first time that Mercari has tested Seller Tiers - they had a very similar promotion running for a limited time back in 2021 as well.

The move comes a little over a year after Mercari backtracked on disastrous fee policy changes that attempted to shift fee burden completely to buyers before settling on a split fee structure and putting the US marketplace under new leadership with Founder CEO Shintaro Yamada stepping in to lead both the Japan and US operations early last year.

Mercari backtracks on fee changes, announcing new fee structure that splits fees between buyers & sellers will take effect January 6, 2025.

The changes appear to be paying off as Mercari reported fiscal year 2025 was the first ever full year showing profit for the US marketplace and Gross Merchandise Volume has continued to improve in recent earnings reports.
