eBay Reminds Sellers Of Shipping Rate Changes Coming In Early 2026
eBay is reminding sellers of shipping rate changes for USPS, FedEx and UPS set to take effect in early 2026.
In the announcement post in the eBay community forum, the company says they continue "working closely with carrier partners to secure increases that are lower than standard commercial or retail rates, helping keep eBay Labels pricing as competitive as possible."
Here's what's changing:
USPS
USPS peak pricing rates currently in place will end and the new rates outlined below will take effect on January 18, 2026. Changes to surcharge criteria
Starting January 12, 2026, FedEx will introduce an update to how it assesses the Additional Handling Surcharge – Dimension and the Oversize Charge. Instead of relying on maximum dimensions, FedEx will move to a cubic volume maximum, calculated by multiplying length × width × height.
This shift changes how surcharges are determined and can materially impact how certain packages are classified and priced.

UPS
As of now, there are no announced rate changes to 2026 UPS shipping rates on eBay. However, effective December 22, 2025, UPS rolled out its surcharge rate updates.
Changes to surcharge criteria
Starting January 26, 2026, UPS will also introduce an important update to how certain surcharges are assessed, including the Domestic Additional Handling Charge – Dimension and the Domestic Large Package Surcharge. Rather than using maximum dimensions, UPS will transition to a cubic volume maximum, calculated by multiplying length × width × height.
To help avoid unexpected surcharges, always double-check your package weight and dimensions (length x width x height) to ensure they fall within the carrier’s limits for the service you’re using.
This shift changes how surcharges are determined and can materially impact how certain packages are classified and priced.

To help avoid unexpected surcharges, eBay suggests to always double-check your package weight and dimensions (length x width x height) to ensure they fall within the carrier’s limits for the service you’re using.
And as always, these shipping rate changes mean sellers will also face additional increases in their cost of doing business since eBay charges their selling fees on the total sale price including shipping and tax - so any time there's a postage increase, it's a de facto revenue and GMV windfall for the marketplaces too.
