eBay Search Malfunctions, No Results Displayed
eBay experienced a major disruption to search today, with results not being displayed across all categories and sort options for about an hour.
During the outage, if you tried to search for any keyword across any category on eBay, it would say there are a number of results found but would not actually display them - there may have been a line of eBay Live events shown, but regular listings were not displayed on the page as you scrolled down.

Changing the sort order from Best Match to any of the other Time, Price, or Distance sort options didn't help and neither did increasing the number of items shown per page or trying to navigate to another page.
Sellers took to the eBay community forum in a panic, with many wondering how the outage may be affecting their sales since buyers were unable to find anything when searching the site.
search not working properly
Is anyone else having trouble with search feature today? Both on my desktop and my phone. Either results just don't show or it shows a list of "Don't miss what's Live." I tried removing the app, re-installing and re-logging in. Still not working.
Why is the search bar only coming up with live events?
When I search for Coach Women’s handbags or Coach Houston men’s bags the search results are only coming up with live events. Why is this happening?
Not able to search items
Weird how my only search results are for this new live stuff that no one asked for. I think this is a wake up call to switch shopping apps.
While eBay has not yet posted any official acknowledgement of this specific issue or a fix, it does appear that search is back to normal - for now.
However, it's concerning that these kind of glitches and outages are a recurring problem for the platform.
Value Added Resource has been reporting on technical glitches involving search and sort for years and the problem doesn't seem to be getting much better as eBay continues to insert AI into the search and discovery process.

Back in 2019, eBay and then CEO Devin Wenig faced activist investor pressure from Elliott Management calling for changes at the company, with constant site glitches and technical misexecution called out explicitly as one of the major problems at the company.
7 years later, it's shocking just how much of Elliott's "Enhancing eBay" plan still rings true today - particularly critiques around glitches constantly plaguing the platform and lack of leadership prioritizing operational and technical excellence.

Mazen Rawashdeh, who was Chief Infrastructure and Architecture Officer at that time, was promoted to Chief Technology Officer in 2019 - a title he still retains today despite the fact the site continues to experience near daily business impacting "glitches" and recurring search malfunctions.
