eBay Launches NYC Edit Market Pop Up in Bid To Boost C2C Enthusiast Buyer Stats
eBay is opening a limited time NYC Edit Market event featuring pre-loved fashion finds from the marketplace, but there's a catch - to gain entry to the pop up shop, prospective buyers will also have to sell something to gain entry.
According to a company press release, the event which will run from April 17 - 19 is an "in-person, physical retail space in SoHo where guests must list an item on eBay to gain entry."

Upon arrival at the NYC Edit Market, guests can either present an active listing from their eBay app or create one on-site, with dedicated listing stations guiding them through the process—from photographing their item to uploading it in real time.
Items listed for entry at The NYC Edit Market will live on eBay.com, with select items featured on The NYC Edit Hub starting on April 17. If eligible, items undergo verification through eBay Authenticity Guarantee before reaching the buyer—reinforcing trust and confidence.
The NYC Edit is a collection of curated listings put together by influencers like Dara Allen, Owen Thiele, and Emilia Petrarca to reflect what’s in circulation on the resale market in New York City.

These special influencer profiles are part of eBay's Ambassador affiliate program, allowing creators to showcase items in a storefront experience without actually having to be a seller or list items themselves.

eBay's press release simply says that items listed for sale at the NYC Edit Market will "live on eBay.com", making it unclear whether those who don't already have their own selling account will have to create one to participate or if eBay will instead of be listing them on an eBay owned/controlled account.
If they are listed on an eBay owned account, that could raise concerns about the company competing directly against third party sellers - like they've previous done with subsidiary TCGPlayer.

The move is part of eBay's broader consumer to consumer (C2C) selling pivot and piggybacks on other recent promotions eBay has been running to garner fashion conscience consumer sellers in the New York area as competition from Vinted heats up.

eBay's C2C strategy shift is also aimed at boosting what CEO Jamie Iannone calls "enthusiast buyers" - those with at least 6 purchase days, at least $800 spent in the last 12 months and/or buyers who also sell.
The Q4 2025 earnings report revealed eBay out of ~135 Million Active Buyers, only ~16 Million meet the "enthusiast" criteria, which is where that statistic has been stuck since Q4 2022.

While it's unlikely the NYC Edit Market will see enough foot traffic to make a measurable dent in that number, the press release messaging is clearly aimed at bolstering the "buyers who also sell" cohort.
And speaking of enthusiast buyers, eBay is once again doling out generous discounts to get buyers interested in eBay Live livestream shopping.
Those who received the invite-only offer must make a minimum $10 purchase on eBay Live between now and May 8th to receive up to $50 in savings, but again there's a catch - the $50 is really two $25 coupons that have to be applied to two separate orders with a minimum of $50 per order.

As we've noted before, the structure of the coupon offer is clearly aimed at increasing repeat purchases and total dollar value - both of which are criteria for the Enthusiast Buyer statistic eBay reports on quarterly earnings.
Hopefully this promotion will go smoother than similar ones eBay has run in the past which left buyers disappointed with difficulties receiving the promised coupons.
