UPDATE 10-10-25

Shippers report the USPS claims page is once again working correctly and a USPS spokesperson has provided the following statement about this issue:

"The U.S. Postal Service has implemented changes to Online Claims to improve the customer experience and strengthen security. After these changes were deployed, a system error was discovered and resolved."

"We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and remain committed to delivering a seamless and secure experience for our customers."

USPS shippers report problems accessing claims website, preventing them from getting compensation for lost or damaged packages.

The technical issues appear to have been occurring for over a week with posts on Reddit and across social media expressing frustration as the USPS claims portal website either doesn't load at all or displays with strange formatting, like it's loading a partial or cached version of the page.

I’ve been trying to open a claim for 5 days now…

USPS destroyed an antique I mailed. I’ve been trying to file a claim. And the form to fill out to submit a claim online doesn’t work. It’s been 5 days of it not working. You can’t click anything. It doesn’t load properly. There’s no way to submit anything. Nothing works. I’ve tried it on different browsers. Mobile devices. You’d think they’d fix it by now….I think they do this on purpose so they don’t have to refund people.

I contacted customer service and all they had to say was “it’s unfortunate when technical difficulties arise…” and told me the process to mail in a claim which I shouldn’t have to do and would need to locate a printer to show the evidence, go buy stamps, envelopes, etc. It’s so stupid. USPS get your shit together.

Online Claim Filing Portal is Broken
by u/silency21 in usps_complaints

It seems that the link or portal is broken — I’ve been trying since yesterday, and the formatting looks funny. Has anyone else experienced the same issue? I called and spoke with a few different reps; some said it was indeed broken on their end, while others said it was working just fine.

Bruh, how hard is it for USPS to fix a simple issue like this? They told me to just do the physical form and mail it in because they can’t guarantee how long it’ll take to fix such a simple problem. Ok thanks USPS

I've tested the claim form at https://onlineclaims.usps.com/OICWeb/ using FireFox, Chrome and Edge browsers both logged in and incognito and am able to replicate the same issue across all browsers - the page is clearly not rendering correctly and the buttons and links do not work to successfully submit a claim at this time.

USPS has not posted any service alerts or outage notices for the website and while daily mail delivery operations are not affected by the ongoing government shutdown, it's possible that IT related positions may be affected, slowing response to this critical issue.

In the meantime, shippers may need to use alternate methods for submitting claims for damaged packages by following these steps to have a Domestic Claim Form mailed to them:

  1. Call the USPS National Materials Customer Service and request a Domestic Claim PS Form.
  2. Complete the form and mail it, along with proof of value and evidence of insurance, to the address on the form.

National Materials Customer Service
1-800-332-0317 (requests for paper Domestic Claim Forms only)

Hours of Operation
Monday–Friday: 6 AM–6 PM CT
Saturdays and Sundays: Closed
Federal Holidays: Closed

USPS has not responded to request for comment as of time of publishing. Stay tuned for updates in this developing story.
