Trading card enthusiasts frustrated as PSA Vault cards sold through eBay are missing option to keep items vaulted, causing buyers to incur unnecessary tax and shipping or miss out on adding cards to their collections due to apparent glitch.

eBay originally launched their in-house vaulting service for trading cards in 2022, then sold it off to PSA parent company Collectors in 2024 as part of a larger deal which also included eBay acquiring Goldin Auctions.

eBay Acquires Goldin From Collectors, Sells eBay Vault To PSA
Big news in the collectibles world as eBay sells off their Vault to PSA and acquires Goldin Auctions from Collectors.

Since that time, PSA has continued to partner and integrate directly with eBay for authentication, card data and pricing features, and vaulting services, with one of the main selling points for purchasing a vaulted card from the official PSA eBay account being that the buyer has the option to keep the card in the vault, avoiding having to pay shipping and sales tax.

But the option to keep a card purchased through eBay in the PSA Vault appears to have been quietly removed without explanation - and so far both eBay and PSA aren't giving any specifics about when it will be re-enabled.

Buyers began reporting the problem on the eBay community forum last week:

PSA vaulted item - No option to keep it vaulted

I’m trying to purchase a card from the PSA eBay account where the card is currently vaulted. However, during checkout, I’m not given the option to keep the card in the vault or perform a vault transfer (which would not incur taxes). The only available option is to have the card shipped, which results in taxes being charged.

For a different listing where the card is not currently vaulted, I am given the option to send the card to the vault and have taxes exempted.

This appears to be a bug. Keeping the card vaulted should be an available option, and it was possible to do so previously.

Same issue here - have sent communications to eBay and PSA and will hold off payment as long as I can (up to 7 days) in hope of option becoming available.

Would have never bid on item had I known PSA Vaulting option was not going to be available. It was disclosed by PSA in the "Item Description from the Seller" as follows "When you purchase this item, you can save on sales tax and selling fees by keeping it in the PSA Vault, official Vault of eBay."

Same issue here the past few days. With prior purchases, I have successfully bought on ebay and kept within the PSA vault but that option does not appear now.

I just called and spoke with PSA customer service and they said this was a glitch. They are working to fix it, but there is no ETA for when it will be resolved...maybe within a week... Which doesn't help at all. It looks like I'll just ship to me so the card doesn't get hung up somewhere...

When users first reached out to PSA (also tagging Collectors CEO Nat Turner), the company initially appeared to not even know there was a problem - which doesn't inspire much confidence.

After pushback, PSA shifted the responsibility to eBay and washed their hands of it, saying eBay is working on getting the feature up and running again "soon."

A day later, that answer had turned to "ASAP" but they still didn't have an ETA.

Turner also responded to some posts on X on January 21st saying it would be turned back on "tomorrow", which should have been the 22nd.

But some users are still reportedly experiencing the problem today, January 27th, and I can confirm when looking at cards in the PSA Vault on both the eBay desktop and app experience, I am not currently seeing any option to keep the card in the Vault when checking out.

For now, buyers experiencing this problem are encouraged to click the question mark in the lower right on desktop or shake their phone while in the eBay app to report the technical issue to eBay - typically the more reports they receive through these methods, the higher priority it becomes for them to fix the problem.

Neither PSA or eBay responded to request for comment as of time of publishing.

Stay tuned for updates and let us know in the comments below if you are missing the option to keep cards in the PSA Vault when purchasing through eBay!
