eBay iOS App Update Tweaks Offers Feature, Raising Seller Concerns About Accidental Discounts

The latest update to the eBay iOS app introduces change to Offers feature that sellers worry could result in unintentional low ball offers being sent to buyers.

A Value Added Resource reader sent an example of the issue - when accessing Seller Initiated Offers using the most recent version of the eBay app on iPhone, the option to enter a dollar amount (rather than percentage) adds a decimal point and two zeros immediately after the first number is tapped.

For example, if the seller wanted to enter $15, eBay is adding a decimal and two zeros as soon as the 1 is selected, making the offer $1.00 instead.

The app does show a warning and will not allow the offer to go through for that low of an amount in this example, but the seller worried that may not always be the case and they may end up inadvertently sending an offer for a different amount than they intended.

While the maximum discount limitations which trigger that warning should prevent that from happening, it's a good reminder for all sellers to pay close attention when sending out Offers.

The issue currently appears to only be impacting the latest iOS version of the eBay app and so far there have been no reports from Android users.

It also seems to only be impacting the dollar amount option - the option to offer a percentage off instead is still working as usual.

Affected users can report the problem to eBay by shaking their phone while using the app (screenshot from Android, iOS may look slightly different) - these reports go directly to the appropriate technical or product team and are often the fastest way to get issues fixed.

In the meantime, sellers who wish to use the dollar amount option instead of percent off may need to send Offers from the web experience if the app does not allow them to enter the correct desired amount.
